A Night at the Moulin Rouge

Toronto, June 9, 2004….A-LIVE Interactive Productions proudly presents A Night at the Moulin Rouge, an interactive, comedic theatre piece with decadent dance stylings and sultry scenes, written by, designed by, produced by and starring Autumn Fawn and Heidi Rayden, directed by Autumn Fawn. The show, featuring six actors/dancers, opens July 1 at 7:30pm and runs through July 11 for 10 shows at The Labyrinth Lounge, 298 Brunswick Avenue, as part of the 2004 Toronto Fringe Festival.

A Night at the Moulin Rouge harkens back to a time when it was a big deal to lift your skirt! It’s Paris, 1890 and the can-can is all the rage. Inspired by the magnificent paintings of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, naïve ingénue Natalie has come to the city of lights to pursue her dream of becoming a courtesan, or, more accurately, what she thinks is a courtesan. However, rival competition, a wicked Madame and a philandering Duke prove to be unforeseen obstacles in her path, and threaten the fate of the Moulin Rouge itself.

Featuring Heidi Rayden as Natalie and Autumn Fawn as the devilish Madame Enchanté, A Night at the Moulin Rouge is Broadway meets Tony & Tina's Wedding! All the elements of a Broadway show: fabulous costumes, superbly choreographed dance numbers and more, including interactive scenes with the audience during which they become patrons of the famous club. Also featured in the cast are Catherine Braund, Chantelle Chouinard, Kat Germain and Shawn Campbell as the womanizing Duke.

Autumn Fawn is an actor, writer, director and producer who studied theatre in London, England at Trinity College and has been a working actor in both theatre and television for over 10 years. Recent television credits include principal, recurring roles on YB Normal, Butch Patterson and Private Dick. Theatre credits include performances with Second City and lead roles for The Kingston Jazz Theatre Company in The Penis Diaries, and Not Black and White: A Tribute to Louis Armstrong. Ms. Fawn also directed the 2003 Toronto Fringe production of Writing Your Life and the 2003 Winnipeg Fringe Production of The Black Madonna.

Heidi Rayden is an actor, writer and producer who studied acting at the Lee Strasberg Theater Institute in New York. She has since gone on to work regularly in television, including a role on the NBC series Strange Days at Blake Holsey High. Recent theatre credits include Adele in Strindberg's Playing with Fire (Marilyn Monroe Theatre, NYC) and the Fringe shows Writing Your Life and The Churkendoose. Heidi has also worked as the associate producer/interviewer for the LIFE Network's documentary Hounds: What is the Price of Fame? and for the radio show Cinephile.
