Sara Porter presents three theatrical and quirky dance pieces, informed by clown and contemporary dance.
In Décollé, a single superhero of declining powers dances with her pylon to an array of pathetic love songs.

“Abandonment, calamity, love and danger, with… glimmers of hope” (Hour, Montreal).

Poking fun at the fantasy world of Harlequin Romance novels, Those Penetrating Dreams depicts some of the nuts and bolts of fantasy, including a fairy godmother, some dangerous music, and a predatorial encounter in a jungle.

“A ... post-feminist romp about women’s fantasies...cheeky!”(Globe and Mail)

Blossom is inspired by Romantic poetry that compares women to flowers and explores different seasons of feminine sensuality. A solo woman explores her garden as it changes and transforms her from an earthbound creature into a climax of full blown, florid dimensions.

“Flamboyant dancer/choreographer reveals a daring imagination.” (Toronto Star)

Hailed as Toronto’s “dynamic local dance light” (Now, August 2000), Sara Porter is an innovative choreographer and performer whose unique blend of comedy and robust athleticism stretches the bounds of traditional contemporary dance. She has presented her work in theatres and festivals in Toronto, Montreal, Halifax, Ottawa, Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Madrid. Also a teacher and writer, Sara has resided and worked in Toronto, Montreal, Halifax and Scotland. Sara has been on faculty in York University Dance department since 1998.
